Preventing Sports Injuries -- Traumatic Injuries

Many sprains, muscle strains, fractures and other injuries can be prevented by following these simple tips:

1. Follow the coaches’ rules for safety and the rules of the sport.

2. Wear the correct protective equipment.  This may include helmets, padding, shin guards, and eye and mouth guards.  And remember that protective equipment only works if it fits properly, is well-maintained and is worn consistently and correctly.

3. Use the same precautions in practice that you would at a game.  Most traumatic sports injuries (62 percent) occur during practice, partly because 33 percent of parents and athletes report that they do not take the same safety precautions during practice that they would during a game.

4. Practice good sportsmanship at all times.

We at Christopher Chiropractic believe that chiropractic care is an important part of improving the athletic performance of our local athletes and helping to prevent lifelong complications from sports injuries.  Consequently, we work with area high school and college athletic trainers and coaches to make chiropractic care available to young athletes of our region. If you have any questions about getting an athlete under chiropractic care call our office at (606) 549-4811 and we will assist you in any way we can.
