"I"ve Had Back Surgery. Can Chiropractic Help Me Now?"

In our previous blog we talked about how research has recently shown that chiropractic can significantly help patients who have had a "failed back surgery". Another concern that we hear often in the office is, "No chiropractor will touch my back, I've had surgery."  Only in very few cases is this true! If a patient has hardware (i.e. screws, rods, pins) in their spine it is important that those areas remain off limits to adjustment. However, by adjusting areas of misalignment above and below the areas of hardware or fusion the patient can benefit greatly.

A study published by Chiropractic and Manual Therapies (Chiropr Osteopat. 2010 Apr 21;18:7. ) revealed that when patients who underwent  lumbar spine total disc replacement were referred by an orthopaedic surgeon for chiropractic treatments no major complications where encountered with care. They found that it was completely safe for the patient to undergo chiropractic care of their low back post surgery.

At Christopher Chiropractic, the doctors take great care to make sure that each patient's treatment is made to specifically meet their needs. They can alter their technique and course of care to make sure that they not only protect the areas of past spinal surgery, but also make sure that you whole spine is functioning properly.

If you still have back pain post surgery or if you just suffer from back pain in general and want to give chiropractic a try call (606) 549-4811 today to schedule your appointment or talk with one of our doctors.
